It’s becoming the norm that modern day leaders are being put under increasing pressure to deliver better results for less. Good leaders have realised that the only way to do this is to involve their team enabling them to help make the difference needed to achieve success. Various techniques have been used in the past to encourage staff to give their best and be more engaged, from reward to punishment.
These carrot and stick methods are now outdated and are unlikely to build relationships based on respect and, in the end, will fail to inspire people to do their best. Teams need to feel proud of what they do, who they work for and the service or product they provide. Only when they are proud can they begin to feel connected. Leaders must support and encourage engagement in order to drive innovation, improve performance and create successful behaviour.
